Design Your Own Jewelry at the Basic Jewelry Casting Workshop, Guided by Imperial Smithster in Heritage-Rich Joo Chiat!
Ever wanted to turn just about anything into jewelry? Well, guess what? You can! This workshop shows you how to take a carved wax model and turn it into a shiny pewter piece in just a few hours.
In this workshop, you’ll get hands-on experience with some cool jewelry-making techniques. Here’s what you’ll dive into:
You’ll start with the basics, like preparing the initial model. You’ll also learn how to spruce it up right, pick the best silicone for the job, and master the art of rubber mould cutting and venting.
Ever wondered what metals go into making jewelry? You’ll get the lowdown on different metals and even get to melt and pour pewter yourself.
You might be thinking, “What the heck is casting?” Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered!
Lost wax casting is an ancient method, used way back in the day for making things like weapons, sculptures, and yep, jewelry. It starts with sculpting a wax model. Then, you attach sprues (kind of like little tunnels for the metal to flow through), pour an investment (a type of mold) over the wax model, and burn out the wax. This leaves a hollow space where the wax used to be. Finally, you pour molten metal into that space, and ta-da! You’ve got your metal piece.
So, ready to turn some wax into something fabulous? Let’s get started!
